ATTENTION, HUSBANDS: BEST INVESTMENT ADVICE YOU CAN EVER GET 4/19/20
Hi my dear friends,Long time no see. I had a long hibernation and woke up with everything around me different: it is spring, California spring. Sunlight shrines through windows; flowers bloom all over; two friends delivered their babies; another two become pregnant; Taiwan has a brand new President; shao po has a different tennis partner; stock market experienced its biggest drop ever——–Everything is so volatile but exciting. This is the spirit of Silicon Valley.
There were a couple of jokes I had been conceiving but none of them would trigger me to sit down and write like this tragic event happening just an hour ago. I tried to call shao po but his smart cellular phone had problem receiving signals in the office building. As far as I know, shao po has a very strong heart and should be able to take this news very calm.
To most of you, this will probably be the funniest investment story you ever heard but, to shao po, this is a valuable lesson.
Today, April 19, 2000, Wednesday, weather could not be better. Peng peng and shao po got up around 8:15 and had coffee together, watching financial news on TV. Before leaving, shao po assigned his wife ,who usually stays home on Wed, a couple of things to do. One of them is to check the stock quote on Motorola and TI (Texas Instrument) and set a buy order. In a word, shop for stocks.

To peng peng, nothing would sound easier than shopping. So she decided to fulfill her first task in the morning and log on Holly Etrade. You know, technology can too change a housewife’s life. After 5 min research, she found out both MOT and TI were in the bargain zone. Especially TI, look at the chart, it has bottomed. Being an efficient “chart analyst", peng peng made an immediate decision and placed a buy order on TI in which her husband has great confidence. Nowadays, nothing can please a husband more by buying the right stocks——-So click the mouse, less than a second, on the tiny window shows: xx shares TI @ market price EXECUTED.
Internet is amazing!! she said to herself.
Still in the celebrating mood and proud of her fast execution, this smart silicon valley “high-tech" wife checked her most updated portfolio on Etrade account. ———– What the hell is this “Telecom Italia" (TI) doing on her portfolio?! People buy Italian shoes, Italian clothes, Italian designer houseware, sofa, or even ham, sausage or anything but I have never heard of anybody buying Italian phone company stocks. At the same time, she was enlightened by a note she left herself last month right next to the computer: Texas Instrument (Symbol TXN).
You might have seen all sort of financial advice but, here, let me give you my best advice for investment: Keep the computer or internet access out of the reach of your wife unless you prefer your portfolio more diversified and globalized.
I am sure you all learn a lot today.
